22 months old...

What to say about this big girl? Well, she's big. She's growing so fast and saying new things every day.

She loves to watch herself on video, so she'll do something silly for a few seconds and then immediately want to watch what I've recorded.

Progress...

Did you hear about the woman who sued Health Net for cancelling her policy while she was going through chemo? She won.
Hopefully this will be changing practices in the health insurance industry.

Disney's California Adventure

When we went to Disneyland last month, we got a free pass to California Adventure so we went just for a few hours yesterday.
We went on two whole rides. We tried to get Marlo to go on the ferris wheel, but when we asked her she said "Nope!", closed her stroller tray down and tried to buckle herself back in, so we had to pass.

counting...

Marlo had so much fun with her grandparents. Yesterday she kept telling me, "I love you, Grandma."

It was hard to drop them off at the airport and hear her cry. It really just broke my heart. I got to see my grandparents all the time when I was a little kid and it's hard to accept that it's just not the same for her.

It would be so nice if we could all just drop by whenever we wanted.

Our parents are retired or retiring soon. You all could move down here. There's some lovely foreclosures.

Then you wouldn't have to sleep on blow-ups at our house either. Tempting???

Tag...

Shelly tagged me with questions about how you met your mate awhile back and I thought Valentine's Day would be a good day to post it. Here it is, but I warn you, it's pretty boring...

What is his name? Mark Eldredge DeWitt

How long have you been together? We met in 2000.

How long did you date? 3 years

Who eats more? Of what? I do. Of everything.

Who said I love you first? Mark.

Who is taller? Mark.

Who is smarter? Well that depends what you're talking about, as we both have our subjects. I will say Mark has the quicker, more agile brain, but I have a better memory.

Who does the laundry? I do. Mark would if I let it sit around for more than a day, but dirty clothes don't stand a chance around here. I even did his laundry when we were just dating, which involved taking it to my house or the laundromat. True love...

Who does the dishes? Usually me.

Who sleeps on the right? Mark.

Who pays the bills? I write the check ones, Mark does the online ones.

Who mows the lawn? What lawn?

Who cooks dinner? Me. But Mark barbeques sometimes.

Who drives when you are together? Mark and it's pretty terrifying.

Who is more stubborn? So obvious. Me.

Who kissed who first? It was mutual.

Who asked who out first? Mark asked me. We went out to breakfast.

Who proposed? Mark, on Jan 8, 2003.

Who has more siblings? He does.

Who wears the pants? I would say we're equals. :)

Now I tag my sister, Amy H., and Heather.

Good stuff

Playgroup had the Valentine's party today (even though it's not till the 14th, I repeat Valentine's Day is on the 14th). The kids made handprints and footprints, ate lots of junk, and played in the sun.

Doing her part...

So for those of you who don't know, Little Einsteins is a kids' program. In order to get their rocket off the ground, kids at home are instructed to "pat" their legs to give him power, then yell, "Blast off!" to get him up in the air.

Marlo is dead serious about it.

Superbowl or something...

We have no big plans today, just hanging around the house. Mark's got a bad cold, but that's not stopping him from barbequeing ribs. I don't think Marlo's feeling well either.
It has been rainy and windy all day. You can see your breath outside...I can't remember the last time that happened down here.
We've been trying out some parks we haven't been to before. So here's some photos of sunnier days...

Do we have another kid that we don't know about?

Because our health insurance went up $142 dollars a month. You do not even want to know what we're paying, but let's just say we should be guaranteed to live to be 150. But I'm sure you're paying a ridiculous amount as well!

Some other healthcare crises that we've recently experienced:

I tried to switch to Kaiser when I was pregnant, and they wouldn't take me because pregnancy was a "preexisting condition".

Marlo wasn't renewed with Blue Cross last year because her doctor had referred her to a specialist (although she never ended up having to go).

We took her to the emergency once in the middle of the night because she had a fever of 105. When I was checking her in, I asked the receptionist if she wanted her insurance card. She said, "Oh, you have insurance?"

I know, this is probably not something I should blog about, but it's keeping me up at night. Thinking about health care and insurance makes my head spin. It has gotten so confusing and out of control.
The problem is that health care has become a business. It exists for profit: look at the pharmaceutical ads on tv and in magazines. Meanwhile, health insurance companies are denying coverage to those people who need it most and overcharging the rest.
If we don't have our health, really what do we have? If people are going broke trying to pay their medical bills, why are we spending billions on war? Where are our priorities?
Well, mine is on healthcare. And that's how I'm going to vote this election.
